Suarez targets Honduras progress

Honduras will not be content with a maiden FIFA World Cup win if they fail to progress from Group E, according to Luis Fernando Suarez.

The Central American nation will make their third appearance in the finals, having bowed out at the first hurdle without a victory to their name in 1982 and 2010.

A draw pitting them against Switzerland, Ecuador and France means Suarez s men are outsiders once more, although the impressive crop of youngsters that steered Honduras into the quarter-finals of the London 2012 Olympics provide cause for optimism.

The likes of star forward Jerry Bengtson could endure a fierce baptism on football s biggest stage when they face France in Porto Alegre on Sunday, but coach Suarez insists his players are aiming high in Brazil.

He told repo…

Agent: Favre ´retired, period´

Brett Favre s agent Bus Cook has attempted to end speculation the former MVP quarterback could yet come out of retirement next NFL season.

Favre, 41, officially retired in January after an injury-hit 2010 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings .

But it was not the first time he has called it quits, after also announcing his retirement in 2009 following his first season with the Vikings.

Prior to that, Favre claimed to be on the verge of retiring in 2008 when his 15-year association with the Green Bay Packers came to an end.

He reversed that decision to join the New York Jets for one season in 2008, yet again announcing his retirement at the end of the campaign, only to link up with the Vikings.

But Cook insists there is no foundation to the rumours…

Falcao targeting Ligue 1 top scorer award

Radamel Falcao is hopeful of becoming the Ligue 1 top scorer next season after returning to Monaco from his loan deal at Chelsea.

Falcao moved to Monaco in 2013 following a reported €60million deal from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, scoring nine goals in 17 league appearances in his first season before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Colombian was loaned out to Manchester United in 2014-15 before joining Chelsea the following season, with both spells ending in disappointment.

But after being overlooked for his nations Copa America Centenario squad, Falcao is targeting a return to form with Monaco in 2016-17.

I m happy to have returned to Monaco,  Falcao told Canal Plus. I hope to have a big season. I m 100 per cent fit.

Verona v AC Milan: Apologetic Bacca out to make amends

AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca is keen to make amends for his outburst after being substituted in the scoreless draw with Carpi when the San Siro side take on Verona on Monday.

The Colombia international reacted furiously when taken off by head coach Cristian Brocchi on Thursday and was told after the game that his behaviour was unacceptable.

Bacca – who has scored 15 goals in his first Serie A campaign – knows he was wrong to react the way he did and is keen to prove his worth against Verona.

Reflecting on Thursday s events with a cool head, I would like to apologise to the coach, my team-mates and all the fans for my behaviour after I was substituted, Bacca said on his official Instagram account.

That was not who I really am, but happened in the he…

Injured Messi to miss Morocco friendly

Lionel Messi will miss Argentina s friendly against Morocco on Tuesday due to a pelvic injury.

Messi made his return to international football in Friday s shock 3-1 friendly defeat to Venezuela in Madrid.

However, it was subsequently confirmed that the Barcelona star had suffered a problem during the game and will not travel to Tangier.

Messi missed six matches during a self-imposed post-World Cup exile from the national team before making his comeback at the Wanda Metropolitano, but goals from Salomon Rondon and Jhon Murillo saw Argentina trailing 2-0 at half-time.

Captain Messi was involved in the move that saw Lautaro Martinez pull one back for Lionel Scaloni s men, but Josef Martinez made sure of the win for Venezuela from the spot.

Messi,…

Dundalk 4/6 to beat St Patrick’s Athletic in Friday’s Irish Premier Division clash

Market: Dundalk win

Odds:

Picking up a 2-1 win at Richmond Park on Monday night, Dundalk will be looking to do a Cup and League double when they face St Patrick s once again on Friday.

Starting with the hosts, coming of the back of crashing out the League Cup and suffering their fourth defeat on the bounce on Monday night, it has been nothing short of a worrying campaign for St Patrick s. Already sat way down in seventh and seven points adrift of their hosts on Friday, Liam Buckley will be growing most concerned by his sides ongoing issues in the final third. Now scoring just three goals in their opening seven matches in the new Premier Division campaign, they have now failed to find the net in over 300 minutes of league action. Also losing their last two outi…

´The VAR has let the referee down´ – Wenger insists no England penalty

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes England s extra-time penalty in Wednesday s 2-1 Euro 2020 semi-final win over Denmark should not have been awarded.

Harry Kane scored England s 104th-minute winner, firing home the rebound after his spot-kick was initially saved by Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Raheem Sterling won the penalty going down on the byline on the right side of the box under pressure from Joakim Maehle.

Sterling claimed post-game it was a clear penalty but Wenger who is now FIFA s Chief of Global Football Development  disagreed, insisting the VAR should have summoned referee Danny Makkelie to look at the replay at least.

No penalty. In a moment like that, I don’t understand why they [the VAR] didn t ask the referee to hav…

Del Bosque hints at retirement

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he is likely to retire when his contract with the Spanish Football Federation expires.

The World Cup-winning coach was recently linked with Real Madrid as a potential replacement for current trainer Jose Mourinho, but Del Bosque has stressed that he has no intention of returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.

I will not take over at any club when I leave the national team. Not at Real Madrid, and not at any other club either, Del Bosque said in an interview with Canal Plus.

You can never say something with 100 percent certainty, but I think that I will just retire when my contract with the Spanish FA runs out.

The people who claimed that I was stalling talks about a new deal with the FA because I was a cand…

Arsenal confirm Rice signing

Arsenal have finally confirmed that they ve completed the signing of Declan Rice from West Ham.

“My ambitions now are to win with Arsenal again. It’s time to go one step bigger and win the Premier League, win the Champions League, and I wouldn’t be here if I did not believe that.”

— Arsenal (@Arsenal)

Some reports have suggested that the fee the Gunners will be paying for the services of the England international could rise up to £128 million, but others are saying it s still the amount originally agreed between the clubs, £100m plus £5m in add-ons.

The completion of the transfer took longer than expected and it had a number of Arsenal supporters worried about a potential abandonment at the …
